You need a fireplace that fits inside the wall you already have. If you want a wide linear fire as the focal point of a bedroom, den, or office—hung on the wall or set flush into it—the Astound SlimMount 42 is the one. Choose a deeper unit instead and you’re building out the wall to hide it. What Makes It Special The whole unit is four inches deep, so it recesses into a standard framed wall without excessive construction, or mounts on the surface with barely any projection. Edge panels and trim come in the box for either install, and it plugs into an outlet or can be hardwired. Recessing still means opening the wall, so count that as part of the job. The fire earns the spot. The flame effect mimics the movement of a real fire, and the tinted, anti-glare glass means you see the flames, not your lamp reflected back. There are 13 top light and ember color options on the remote and more through the Napoleon Home app, and the included remote runs everything—on/off, thermostat, 7-day schedule, flame, ember bed, and top lights. The heat is real, too—enough for a bedroom or a den. ECO mode runs at half heat and uses less energy; BOOST runs the heater at maximum with the fan turned up for a cold morning. It’s backed by a 3-year registered warranty. Possible Downsides • The heater warms one room, not the house. Figure roughly 150–250 square feet of comfort heat—it supplements the furnace, it doesn’t replace it.• It needs its own dedicated circuit. A dedicated 15 amp grounded circuit is required, so an electrician may be part of the install.• The colored glass ember kits are optional, not included.
