So the wall that should anchor the room sits empty. You need a fireplace that fits the wall you already have. If the fire’s job is to be the focal point of a bedroom, office, or condo living room, with enough warmth to take the chill off while you’re in it, the 50-inch Astound SlimMount is the one. Choose a deeper unit instead and you’re framing out a bump-out or living with a box that stands well off the wall. What Makes It Special The whole unit is four inches deep. It recesses into a standard 2″ × 4″ framed wall without excessive construction, or hangs on the surface with barely any projection—edge panels and trim for both installs come in the box. It needs no venting, and it can plug in or be hardwired, so either way it ends up reading as part of the wall, not an appliance bolted to it. The glass is tinted and anti-glare, so you see the fire, not your lamp reflected in it. Spark flame technology—moving points of light that drift through the flame the way a real fire throws embers—makes it read as real from across the room, and 13 top-light and ember colors plus orange, yellow, or combined flames let you match the fire to the evening. Heat is the bonus: comfort for the room it’s in, approx. 150–250 square feet. ECO mode runs at half heat to sip power, and BOOST runs the heater flat out with the fan turned up for a cold morning. The included remote handles on/off, thermostat, a 7-day schedule, flame, ember bed, and top lights, and the Napoleon Home app with Google Home and Alexa lets you run all of it from anywhere.
