Who It’s For There’s a room in your house that would be better with a fire in it—a bedroom, a den, a basement—but there’s no chimney, no gas line, and no appetite for a construction project. You need a fireplace that installs anywhere a wall and a wire can go. If you want flames on an ordinary evening in any season, with heat in January and without it in July, the Element built-in electric fireplace is the one. Choose gas instead and you get more heat, but you also take on venting and a gas line this unit never asks for. What Makes It Special The Element trims itself. The surrounding frame is part of the design, so once it’s in the wall the job is done—no trim kit required—and your tile or drywall runs right up to a clean black edge. It’s also a fireplace for all twelve months: the flames run with or without heat, brightness adjusts to the evening, and seven top-light LED color settings wash the included log set and brick side panels in anything from a natural glow to red and blue. Heat depends on the wiring. On a standard 120-volt circuit it warms a small room; hardwired to 240 volts it delivers twice the heat—approximately 250–500 square feet, a bedroom or a den rather than the whole floor. Possible Downsides • Full heat requires a hardwired 240-volt circuit—on a standard 120-volt circuit the output is half.• It warms the room it’s in, not the house; for real multi-room heat, a gas unit is the better tool.
