You need a linear fire that fits the room, not one that overpowers it. If you want the long flame across the wall as comfort, not a furnace, the Napoleon Ascent Linear Premium 46 is the linear built for smaller spaces. Choose an oversized model instead and you’ll spend the season deciding between the look of the fire and staying in the room. What Makes It Special The fire has its own lighting. Built-in top lights shine down on the logs or glass, so the media reads as part of the room’s design instead of disappearing into a dark box. The included remote runs everything from the couch—on and off, thermostat, flame height, the lights, and the fan—and the eFIRE app puts the same controls on your phone. It also handles heat on your terms. The optional Universal Heat Management system uses ducts to circulate warmth through the room without electricity or blowers, lowers the clearances above the unit, and makes it safe to put a TV above the fireplace. A separate distribution kit can move warm air to another room entirely. And if the power goes out, battery backup still gets the fire going. Possible Downsides • The media is a required separate choice—logs, glass beads, embers, or a themed kit must be selected with the unit; nothing is included by default.• Heat management is optional, not included; the reduced clearances above the fireplace apply only when the Universal Heat Management system is installed.• Battery backup takes 4 AA batteries that aren’t included, so it only helps if you keep them in it. Set the look with driftwood, birch, split oak, or beach fire logs, glass beads or glass embers in a range of colors, or the mineral rock, shore fire, and woodland media kits, then finish with Ledgestone or reflective black porcelain panels and a black four-sided trim for openings that need more coverage.
