But a fire that size usually means hot glass you steer the kids around and a wall too warm for the TV you planned to hang above it. You need a big fire that’s safe to live close to. If you’re building or remodeling around a six-and-a-half-foot wall of flame with a TV or artwork above it, the Napoleon Luxuria LVX74 is the one. Choose a standard linear fireplace instead and you’ll live with a barrier screen between you and the fire and tighter limits on what hangs above it. What Makes It Special The glass is the headline. The Luxuria’s triple-pane glass guard is safe to touch, so there’s no mesh screen between you and the flames—you see the fire clean and unobstructed, and nobody has to hover when the kids or the dog wander close. Behind the glass, the included Dynamic Heat Control system keeps the wall above the fireplace cool enough for a TV or artwork, and it does it without a fan, so the room stays quiet. Napoleon rates it for combustible material right up to the edge of the fireplace, which means the finish is decided by your room, not by clearance rules. The heat itself covers approximately 750–1,500 square feet—a large living room and the space beyond it. The remote and the eFIRE mobile app are both included, and they run everything—flame height and the multi-colored LED ember bed and top lights, so the fireplace can glow on a summer evening with no flame at all. A see-through version turns the same fire into the centerpiece of two rooms at once. Possible Downsides • The fire media is required but sold separately. Logs, glass, rocks, or globes are chosen when the unit is ordered.• The fan kit is optional rather than included. The built-in heat management works without one, but forced air circulation is an add-on.
