You need an insert that fits the opening you already have and turns it into a dependable heater. If you want everyday warmth from the fireplace that’s already in the room—without opening walls or starting a remodel—the Rosedale RD2 is built for exactly that. Choose it and the fireplace becomes the heat you use every evening; leave things as they are and the furnace keeps doing all the work. What Makes It Special The RD2 was designed for retrofits. It slides into the existing opening, and the faceplate and backerplate bridge the gap between insert and masonry for a finished look. It heats approximately 750–1,500 square feet—a living room and the space beyond it—and it keeps making heat when the power’s out. Below the flames, a modulating electric ember bed glows and shifts the way real coals do at the bottom of a wood fire, so the fire reads as real from across the room. The viewing area is maximized so you see fire, not frame, the included fan pushes warmth to the far side of the room, and the remote holds the room at the temperature you set from the couch. Possible Downsides • The fan needs electricity. The fire still makes heat in an outage, but the blower won’t run.• Log styling only, in two choices—birch or oak. There is no glass-media or linear look.• The hybrid gas/electric blower and Black Illusion Glass panel are RD3-only. If either matters to you, look at the Rosedale RD3. If you want the fireplace you already have to earn its keep as a heater, the Rosedale RD2 is the right decision. The room with the fire becomes the room the house lives in. The RD2 takes birch or oak log sets, black faceplates in square, arched, or wrought iron styles, three backerplates including a trimmable version, and optional Westminster brick, Newport brick, or MIRRO-FLAME reflective porcelain panels, so it can match the room it’s going into.
