You need a fire wide enough to carry the whole room on its own. If you’re building or remodeling and you want the fireplace to be the design decision everything else answers to, this is your category. Pick a standard-size unit and the fire is something in the room; pick the Napoleon Vector 50 and it’s the reason for the room. It builds into a framed wall, so plan on tile or stone finish work as part of the job. What Makes It Special You choose what the fire burns over: high-definition oak, driftwood, or birch logs, a beach fire or birch kit, mineral rocks, or glass beads and embers in a range of colors. Underneath sits a multi-colored LED ember bed with top lights—set the glow to any color from your phone, so the fireplace matches the evening, not just the room. Every setting runs from the included remote or the eFIRE app: flame height, fan speed, ember color, on and off—all from the couch. Add the optional Dynamic Heat Control system and the wall above stays cool enough to recess a TV directly above the fireplace without heat damage; the Plus and ducted versions move the warmth to other rooms or even outdoors. Possible Downsides • Media is a required separate choice—logs, rocks, or glass don’t come in the box, so the look you want is part of the order.• The fan and the heat-management systems are optional add-ons, not included.• This is the single-sided model; the Vector lineup includes a see-through version if you want the fire visible from two rooms.
